BICF Playhouses Revealed
June 29, 2012
The Building Industry Charitable Foundation, Kosair Charities and YouthBuild Louisville revealed the custom-built playhouses to the Corbett and Bromley families on Thursday, June 28th during an unveiling event on the YouthBuild Louisville Campus. Mayor Greg Fischer addressed the crowd and spoke about how projects such as this are yet another example of how compassionate Louisville residents and businesses are toward one another. The Building Industry Charitable Foundation Playhouse Project is truly a collaborative effort with Kosair Charities and YouthBuild & contractors such as Corrigan Electric to build custom-designed playhouses for Kosair Kids.

This year’s recipients were the twin boys of the Corbett family and young daughter of the Bromley Family. The Corbett’s worked with Registered Builder Pat Durham to design a castle fit for kings! Interior Design was provided by Lisa Lynn Knight, Lisa Lynn Designs and included some of the boys favorite characters included Mickey Mouse, Sponge Bob, and more. Shortly after entering the playhouse for the first time after the big reveal, both boys shouted “Thank You” after seeing the furniture, toys, and finishes built especially for them.
Corrigan was proud to support the building of the Castle playhouse working alongside & teaching the YouthBuild students about the electrical trade. The Castle featured such custom touches as LED red, yellow, blue & green lights to illuminate the disco ball in one house. Since both boys are stimulated by music & light, the LED lighting was a great way for them to enjoy their music. The Castle also featured a lighted ramp entry, LED recessed lighting, tamper resistant receptacles, and a flat panel television with cable service. An Eaton Cutler Hammer panel with surge protection is installed to handle all the electrical loads in the playhouse including the 2 ton HVAC system. The Castle is the perfect place for two brothers to hang out, play and enjoy acting like normal kids in their own backyard.

The Bromley family received a playhouse built by YouthBuild students under the direction of Registered Remodeler Brandon Bailey, Bailey Remodeling & Construction.  After entering the home for the first time, its young recipient stuck her head out the front door with a smile one-mile wide to share her excitement with on-lookers. Her playhouse is complete with a working sink and granite counter tops, a lofted bed, a white board wall for art projects and lots of play space. Interior design was provided by Liz Wilson, Liz at Home.
Corrigan Electric was proud to support the building of the Bromley playhouse by teaching & working alongside YouthBuild students & Bailey Remodeling to donate labor & material for the electrical system in the Bromley Family playhouse. Corrigan Electric was able to expose the YouthBuild students to the wiring methods & code requirements of a miniature version of a real house to understand the importance to install the safest possible electrical system in any project large or small under the direct supervision of qualified, licensed electricians. Such amenities include LED recessed lighting to produce less heat & more energy efficiency. Crystal chandeliers, dimmer switches, tamper resistant receptacles, and more. Special provisions include a breathing machine receptacle in the loft for Elizabeth to take a nap, play, and draw or watch movies on her flat panel television without being restricted to her family’s home. The playhouse also has its own mini-split HVAC system with humidity & allergen control to allow breathing easier while in the comfort of the playhouse during play time.
Corrigan Electric is thankful for the opportunity to volunteer their services and expertise to YouthBuild and the deserving recipients of the Kosair Charities playhouses.
